CARROLLTON – Tuesday was Homecoming Day for Skip Fite. The West Georgia Wolves’ new head baseball coach was formally introduced to fans and local media at noontime reception at The Coliseum.
“I’m really excited and eager to get this thing going,” said Fite to the assembled group. “We have a lot of work to do, but I believe in the direction of this athletic program and can’t wait to get started.
Fite, 53, was Friday named as UWG’s new head coach, coming to West Georgia following 25 seasons as head coach at Augusta State University. He replaces former coach David “Doc” Fowlkes, who resigned in May following 19 seasons as head coach.
Introducing Fite was Daryl Dickey, UWG’s interim athletic director. Dickey called Fite “a special person, at a special place, at special time for our athletic program and our university.”
Fite is set to immediately begin his duties at UWG. These include putting together a staff, contacting returning players, and more.
