Carrollton, GA – The combination of excellence in the classroom and on the field has resulted in honors for a pair of University of West Georgia student-athletes. Men’s cross country standout Dan Moffitt and women’s soccer stalwart
Jenna Greathouse were Friday named members of the 2009 Gulf South Conference Fall All-Academic Team.
Beyond the All-Academic honor, the duo of Moffitt and Greathouse head a list of 35 UWG student-athletes named to the GSC Fall Academic Honor Roll. All drew plaudits from athletic director Daryl Dickey.
“We’re very proud to acknowledge the accomplishments and achievements of these two fine performers,” said Dickey. “The student-athletes at West Georgia are students first, and for them to be recognized is a testament to them and to their performance on-and-off the field.”
Dickey added, “We thank them and wish them continued success.”
The GSC All-Academic Team was selected in a joint vote of Faculty Athletic Representative and Sports Information Directors from each league institution. Nominees must have an overall grade point average of 3.20 or higher for their collegiate career. Beyond academic success, student-athletes are also judged by their athletic success, community service, and extra curricular activities.
Moffitt, a sophomore from Cumming, carries a 3.24 GPA in Pre-Engineering. He was an All-GSC First Team performer in 2009, finishing seventh in the GSC Championships and leading the Wolves to a second place team finish. Moffitt also was a second team All-South Region selection in helping UWG to a fourth place finish in the 2009 South Region Championship.
Greathouse, a senior from Lanexa, Kan., was an All-GSC Second Team performer for the Wolves’ soccer team last fall. In the classroom, she has earned a GPA of 3.54 while majoring in Psychology, with a minor in Spanish. Also, Greathouse was a member of the 2008 GSC Academic Honor Roll.
