Carrollton, GA - In a game that was postponed from last Thursday, the West Georgia Wolves will head to northern Alabama on Monday evening to face-off with the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers. The game was postponed along with all of the events at UAH in light of the recent tragedy that took place on that campus.
The men's game is very significant in the race for the 2010 Gulf South Conference tournament, as both teams have a stake in that tourney. The Wolves need either a win in each of their final two GSC East Division games or a loss by West Alabama to get to the tournament.
Alabama-Huntsville has already punched their ticket, but now looks to claim a share of the GSC East title with a whirlwind week that features four games in the course of seven days.
West Georgia will need a big presence in the middle from senior
John Pringle, who has something to prove after the All-Conference candidate was held scoreless in the first meeting between the two teams. The Chargers had four different players score in double-figures in the last meeting with the season-leading scorer Cody Jones scoring 14 to lead the way.
On the women's side, the Wolves were dealt a crushing blow on Saturday night against West Alabama. The Tigers punched their ticket for Southaven with a three-point victory, while the Wolves now have to win their last two at UAH and Valdosta State in order to get past West Florida and into the tournament.
The formula for the Wolves is simple this season: when UWG shoots well, UWG wins. When they don't, a loss is likely in the cards. Against Alabama-Huntsville earlier this season, the Wolves put out an enormous defensive effort in the win as UAH could not handle the defensive pressure as West Georgia won 62-38.
The women's game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. (EST), with the men's game set to begin approximately 30 minutes after the women's contest.
