Valdosta, GA - Three wins was, as it turned out, just enough, as the West Georgia Wolves clinched a berth in the 2010 Gulf South Conference tournament despite suffering an 83-57 defeat at the hands of the Valdosta State Blazers in Saturday's season finale.

The Wolves needed but one thing to happen Saturday night to secure that berth, as a loss by West Alabama to Alabama-Huntsville midway through the first half of the UWG-VSU game clinched the berth for West Georgia.

West Georgia struggled from the field in the first half, but neither team was in a hurry to score early, as the first points of the game didn't come until nearly two minutes into the contest. The Wolves hit just five field goals in the first half and trailed at the break by a 31-16 mark.

In the second half, the Blazers exploded for 52 points while shooting at a torrid 54 percent from the field. West Georgia countered with 42 points, but couldn't overcome the enormous VSU offensive.

In his final regular season game, John Pringle notched the 12th double-double of his fine career, collecting 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead the way. Vojin Svilar was the only other UWG player in double-figures, hitting for 12 points as well.

The Wolves now set their sights on Southaven, MS and the Gulf South Conference tournament. West Georgia will enter the tourney next Friday as the fourth seed out of the east with a 3-7 record in GSC play. Awaiting UWG will be the current No. 1 team in the nation, Arkansas Tech, a team the Wolves fell to 89-70 earlier this sason. Game time is set for 3:45 EST on Friday.
