Carrollton, GA – Optimism is always available in abundant supply on National Signing Day. Wednesday was no exception for University of West Georgia Head Football Coach Daryl Dickey and his staff, as the school signed 29 players to be a part of the 2010 West Georgia football squad.
“We’re very excited about this group and their potential to inject their talents into the squad we have returning,” said Dickey of his 2010 signing class. “We were able to address several needs while adding a lot of quality student-athletes across the board.”
West Georgia’s 2010 signing class includes a mix of both offensive and defensive players. It also includes a mix of linemen and so-called “skill” position players. Also, as is Dickey’s aim, players from high schools across state are predominant in the signing class.
“The foundation of our program needs to be ‘program’ kids from the state of Georgia,” says Dickey. “I think our staff did an excellent job of fulfilling that goal with this class.”
Dickey says that many factors must come together to ensure an outstanding recruiting effort. He extended plaudits to his staff, and to the state’s high school coaches. Also, it doesn’t hurt to have an excellent product to offer.
“We’re very fortunate in that we have an outstanding product to sell,” said Dickey. “The climate of this campus, the education we can provide, and the facilities we have in place gives us an excellent product to offer.”
UWG's coach also extended plaudits beyond his coach staff. "Recruiting is not just an athletic department endeavor," said Dickey. "We had university-wide involvement to make this recruiting class possible. I would like to the thank everyone in the UWG community who had a part in it."
