UWG Finishes Southeastern in 12th

Valdosta, Ga. - Four of the five West Georgia golfers participating in the Southeast Collegiate at Kinderlou this week had all three rounds in the 70s, with the Wolves finishing 12th out of 18 teams at the tourney. 

Bryn Powers was the low man on the scorecard for the Wolves on Tuesday, firing a personal tourney-best 73 to finish tied for 28th in the tournament. Next on the list was Jack Wall, who shot a 76 in the final round to finish tied for 32nd. 

Ryan Chitwood was the third man in the clubhouse for West Georgia, as his third round was his highest score of the tournament, signing in a 78 to finish tied for 49th place. Zach Lassetter was next with a 74 on the final day, his best of the tourney as he finished 59th. 

The final UWG player in the clubhouse was Eric Alvarez, whose second-round 84 put him behind the rest of the team. Alvarez made up for it in the final round with a 77 to finish 75th at the tournament. 

The Wolves' next stop is back home at Mirror Lake Country Club next Monday and Tuesday, as West Georgia hosts the 2010 UWG Invitational.  


Day 2 Recap
The West Georgia Wolves had a tough second day on the links, falling five places at the Southeast Intercollegiate at Kinderlou to finish eleventh overall in the tournament's second round.   

West Georgia shot 307 as a team the second round bringing their tournament total to 607 shots, just 31 shots shy of tournament winner Valdosta State.  

Sophomore Jack Wall finished the day with 5 shots over par, adding 4 strokes from the previous day.  He finished the tournament with a team low 150 shots and tied for 24th place for the tournament.  

Ryan Chitwood and Bryn Powers finished within one stroke of one another with Chitwood shooting 151 for the tournament and Powers finishing with 152.  Chitwood added three strokes to his day one total finishing off with 77 for day two and finishing in 34th place.  Powers dropped four points from day one ending the second day with a solid 74, locking himself into 43rd place for the tournament . 

Zach Lassetter and Eric Alvarez were the last two players on the board for the Wolves, finishing with 157 and 159 for the tournament.  Lassetter added one shot to his day one score finishing 67th while Alvarez added 9 shots and concluded the tournament in 74th place .  

Day One Roundup 

VALDOSTA, Ga. -
 West Georgia has had a good showing on the first day of the Southeast Intercollegiate at Kinderlou, as the Wolves are currently tied with North Alabama in sixth place. 

Valdosta State shot a three-over 291 to tie for first during the first round of the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate at the par-72, 7,097 yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club Sunday.

The Blazers matched Florida Southern for the top spot on the day as the two squads bested Barry by four strokes. Lander was two strokes behind the Bucs in fourth place while Armstrong Atlantic shot an 11-over 299 to finish the day fifth. North Alabama and West Georgia tied for sixth at 300 followed by Georgia College and West Florida at 301.

Lynn was 10th with a 306 followed by Nova Southeastern a stroke behind and Florida Tech one more shot behind. Columbus State and Carson-Newman tied for 13th at 309 and Delta State shot a 314 to finish the day 15th while Clayton State (317), Rollins (318) and Eckerd (322) rounded out the field.

Four players shot a one-under 71 to finish tied for first on the day, including Blazer Chad Smith. Wade Holland tied for fifth with an even par 72 while Chesley Gunn was a stroke behind and tied for eighth. Will Repko shot a three-over 75 to tie for 24th while Fredrick Hildebrand rounded out the VSU squad with a nine-over 81 to tie for 77th.

The Blazers also had four individuals compete on the day, led by Evan Hanna, who shot a 73 to tie for eighth. Clarke Hendrick was four-over-par with a 76 to tie for 36th while Drew McGuire tied for 87th with an 83 and Jason Groover tied for 93rd with an 85.

The tournament continues with a single round of play on Monday before finishing up with a single round on Tuesday.
