Greenwood, SC - Two Wolves kept their scores the same in the final round of the Bearcat Classic, as the Wolves took a step forward to finish in a tie for eighth place after closing the first two rounds in ninth. 

As a team, the Wolves finished the final round with a 296 to close out the tournament at 18-over par, finishing 49 strokes behind host and tournament champion Lander. The score was the highest of the tournament for West Georgia, whic shot a 295 in the first round, followed by a 291 in the second round. 

Individually, senior Ryan Chitwood was the lowest scorer for the Wolves, shooting a 75 in the finla round to finish at 1-over par for the tournament. Second in the clubhouse proved to be one of the more consistent golfers over the three rounds, as Eric Alvarez finished with a par in both of the final rounds to close out the tourney at 6-over par. 

Alvarez and Zach Lassetter were tied for 44th-place at the tournament, with Lassetter finishing the final round with a 1-over par 73. 

Daniel Guthrie started the tournament strong, firing a 71 in the first round, but faded late, finishing with an 82 in the final round and in a tie for 56th place at 11-over par. Jack Wall was the final UWG golfer in the clubhouse, closing out the tournament with a 76 and a tie for 76th place overall. 

The Lander Bearcat Invitational was the final stop for the men's team this spring before the Gulf South Conference tournament on April 19 in Hot Springs, Ark.

Second Round Recap
The second round had equally low scores, as the West Georgia Wolves fell as individuals, but stayed the same as a team heading into Tuesday's final round. 

The 36-hole marathon Monday was tough on the Wolves, but one UWG golfer managed to stay under par through the first two rounds, as Ryan Chitwood enters the final round at 1-under par after a second-round 73. That total score puts the UWG senior in a tie for second place overall. 

The second West Georgia player on the leaderboard is Daniel Guthrie who followed his under-par first-round with a 74 in the second round. He is currently tied for 29th place at 1-over par for the tournament. 

Zach Lassetter and Eric Alvarez each fired a 72 in the second round Monday, following up a 78 and 77, respectively in the first round. Alvarez enters the final round tied for 48th with an overall 149 and Lassetter is tied for 54th with a 150. 

The final man in the clubhouse was Jack Wall, who rebounded after a tough first round to shoot a 76 in the second round. He was able to shave off seven strokes and five places in the standings, entering the final round with an overall 159. 

The Wolves stayed put in the overall standings, sitting in ninth place, 42 strokes behind host and leader, Lander. The final round will begin Tuesday morning at around 8 a.m.

Round One Recap
Low scores were all over the course on Monday in the first round of the Lander Bearcat Invitational, as two Wolves shot below par and West Georgia finished the round in a tie for ninth place. 

Ryan Chitwood, who led the UWG Invitational last week after the first round, was the first player to be under par for the Wolves, firing a 3-under 69 to complete the opening round in a tie for fourth place. Just behind Chitwood was Daniel Guthrie, who shot a 1-under 71 and sits with 12 other players in a tie for 13th-place. 

The next UWG golf on the list was Eric Alvarez, who came in with a 5-over 78 and finished the first round tied for 58th in the tourney. One stroke behind Alvarez was Zach Lassetter, the low UWG golfer at last week's invitational. Lassetter was tied for 63rd to finish the opening round. 

Last on the list for the Wolves was local product Jack Wall, who finished the first round with an 83 and in 81st place overall. 

The tournament has three rounds, with the first two scheduled to take place today. Round three will begin first thing tomorrow morning.
