Carrollton, GA - If the inaugural games at University Field Wednesday afternoon were any indication, the newest addition to the West Georgia athletic facilities has the potential to be the most successful facility ever at the university. The Wolves blasted Miles 11-1 in the opener, then continued the hot hitting with a 13-2 win in the nightcap.

Freshman Rachel Segers threw out the first pitch at 2:09 p.m., with that pitch falling just out of the strike zone as a ball. Segers settled down and finished the first inning by sitting down the Golden Bears

With one out in the bottom of the first, another freshman etched her name in the UWG record books, as Meagan Sitton singled for the first hit in the new field. Sitton stole second, then moved to third on back-to-back walks from Lindsay Ellenburg and Crissy Rainwater. During the next at-bat, a wild pitch brought Sitton home for the first run in University Field.

The big inning for the Wolves came in the third, as Sitton led off the inning with another single. Four batters later, Kaley Sullivan wrote her name in the record books with the first home run in the new facility, this one a three-run blast to nearly dead center field. By the time the dust cleared at the end of the inning, the Wolves had plated nine runs on eight hits and the game was blown wide open.

In the top of the fifth, Miles managed two hits, but could muster no more, as Segers closed the game out by striking the final batter out looking. The UWG hurler went five innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out seven to move to 5-2 on the season.

Sitton led the way offensively with a 4-for-4 effort in the game, scoring three runs and collecting one RBI. Sullvian and Rainwater each had a hit and three RBI in the contest.

In the nightcap, the Wolves wasted little time in opening up the offense. Freshman Kate Goczyca faced the minimum in the top of the first, followed by a five-run outburst from the Wolves in the bottom half of the inning.

In that outburst, West Georgia was highly effective in hitting without the long ball, collecting five runs on seven hits with no extra-base hits in the inning. Freshman Ashley West had the big bang in the stanza with a two-run, one-out single up the middle that scored Sullivan and freshman Megan Garcia

In the fourth inning, the Wolves brought out more of the big lumber, collecting seven runs on seven hits, with four of those hits coming as doubles. The final run of the inning and subsequently the game was fitting, as Sitton scored on a sacrifice fly from Rainwater, putting the Wolves up 13-2.

Gorczyca worked a perfect fifth inning to close out the affair for her second win of the season. The freshman went five innings, scattering seven hits and allowing two runs to move to 2-6 on the season.

Garcia and West were each perfect at the plate on the afternoon, with Garcia going 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI while West was 2-for-2 with a run scored and three RBI.

West Georgia heads into the 2010 Wolves' Invitational this weekend with a 9-11 record on the season. The team is hitting .287 and has an ERA of 2.99 with a tough field of 12 teams coming to Carrollton and the Carroll County Recreation Complex on Friday.
