Carrollton, GA - As a team, the West Georgia Wolves shaved one stroke off of their day one total, finishing the Rome News-Tribune Invitational in a tie for eighth, 23 strokes off of leader John A. Logan Community College
Zach Lassetter and
Bryn Powers exchanged places in the second round, as Powers fired off a 70 to close out the tournament while Lassetter struck with a 75. Lassetter's total put him one spot out of the top-10 in 11th place, while Powers finished in a tie for 14th place overall.
Eric Alvarez shaved three strokes off of his day one score, firing a second-round 75 and finishing in 41st place with a two-round total of 153.
Jack Wall fell off of his first round pace, shooting a 79 on the second day to finish in a tie for 48th place.
The final UWG player on the board was
Daniel Guthrie, who had an 81 in the first round. Guthrie also shaved three strokes in the final round to finish with a 78.
The Wolves' next foray on the golf course is at the Southeast Tournament at Kinderlou next weekend.
Day One Roundup
Just 13 strokes separate the top nine teams at the 2010 Rome News-Tribune Invitational, with the West Georgia Wolves firing a first-round 299 as a team, coming into the clubhouse in ninth place after one day.
Junior
Zach Lassetter was stellar in the opening round, firing a personal season-low 70 to kick off the tourney. That score earned the UWG lefty a spot in the top-five after the first round, as he is currently tied for fourth overall.
As a team, the Wolves had four players in the 70s after the first round, with
Jack Wall,
Bryn Powers and
Eric Alvarez turning in a 75, 76 and 78, respectively. Wall is currently tied for 29th, followed by Powers at 42nd and Alvarez in 63rd. The final UWG player in the clubhouse was
Daniel Guthrie, who shot a 43 on the back nine to finish with an 81.
