Carrollton, GA - After the most successful weekend of the year last week, the West Georgia Wolves return to GSC East Division play this week with a trek across the southern part of the division, facing off with Valdosta State and West Florida.

The first time facing this pair of teams had mixed results for the Wolves with four losses coming in two different ways. Both doubleheaders featured a five-inning loss for West Georgia and a close call for the opponent, though the Wolves came out on the short end of the stick in each game.

Against West Florida in Carrollton, the Wolves managed just four hits off of UWF starter Jillian LaFrance in the first game, falling by an 11-1 count in five innings. In the second game, the Wolves' bats woke up late, as UWF pulled out an 11-7 victory.

The next day against Valdosta State, West Georgia started things where they left off on Saturday, falling to VSU in a nail-biter 11-9. In the nightcap, the Wolves could not figure out current GSC East Division Pitcher of the Week Margaret Carter, falling 9-0 in five innings.

More recently, the Wolves and Argos had a similar record last weekend at the 2010 Gulf South Conference Crossover, as West Florida went 5-2 and UWG went 4-3. The Lady Argos fell to Arkansas-Monticello and Ouachita Baptist, while the Wolves lost to UAM, Christian Brothers and Henderson State. Valdosta State went 6-1 at the event, losing to Arkansas Tech.

West Georgia had great success last weekend at the Crossover, beating Arkansas Tech 6-3 last Friday for the first conference win of the season. The second came via a 10-2 whipping of Ouachita Baptist on Saturday, followed by a sweep of Delta State and Southern Arkansas on Sunday to close out the event.

The GSC Crossover was a shot in the arm for the UWG offense,as the Wolves now have five batters hitting at least .290 on the season. Lindsay Ellenburg leads the way with a .355 average, but freshman Meagan Sitton (.296 overall BA), hit .423 last weekend with seven RBI. Senior Candice Brown snapped a cold streak that had lasted nearly a month, going 4-for-4 with three RBI in the Wolves' win over Southern Arkansas.

Record Book Watch: Sophomore sluggers Lindsay Ellenburg and Kaley Sullivan are each on the verge of breaking into the record books in the single-season doubles category. Each has 16 doubles on the season, two short of Jessie Wise's record of 18, set in the 2006 season . . . Senior Candice Brown has a chance to move into second-place in the all-time hits category. She currently has 228 career hits, nine less than Mary Carlisle, the current second-place holder.
