Pensacola, FL - Following a tough Saturday against third-ranked Valdosta State, the West Georgia Wolves pushed West Florida in both ends of a doubleheader, but fell 5-4 and 8-4 to complete the final road trip of the season.
The Wolves came into this weekend on a three-game winning streak coming out of the 2010 GSC Crossover. But facing a pair of teams that have spent the bulk of the season in the national rankings, the Wolves fell silent, falling in all four games.
In the first game on Saturday, one big inning from West Florida was the difference in the game, as the Wolves played one of their best games of the season. In the third inning, the Lady Argos put four runs on the board, pushing themselves over the hump.
The Wolves tied the contest at four in the top of the sixth inning, but West Florida responded with the game-winning run in the bottom of that stanza.
Senior
Candice Brown, junior
Crissy Rainwater and freshman
Kristin Hall each had two hits in the game, with Brown knocking in two runs in her final road series of her collegiate career.
In the nightcap, the Argos brought out the offense, scoring runs in nearly every inning en route to an 8-4 win. The only inning where UWF did not score was in the fourth inning. The Wolves picked up three runs in the fourth and another in the seventh for their scoring summary.
Sophomore
Kaley Sullivan led the way at the plate in the second game, going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Kelsey Francen, went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI on the day.
West Georgia completes the 2010 season next weekend in Carrollton, facing off with North Alabama on Saturday and West Alabama on Sunday. It will be a big weekend for the Wolves, as the university will dedicate University Field before Saturday's doubleheader, followed by senior day on Sunday, where West Georgia will honor seniors Brown and Lindsey Kragt.
