West Georgia Athletics

Carrollton, GA – Saturday marks a significant day in the history of women’s athletics at the University of West Georgia. The university will officially dedicate its new women’s athletic facility at ceremonies scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the UWG Athletic Complex.
   
President Dr. Beheruz Sethna will address the gathering. He will also take part in the official ribbon cutting, an event that will include athletic director Daryl Dickey; softball head coach Erika Swanson, and soccer head coach Marisa Kovacs.
    
At the center of West Georgia’s new women’s facility is the spacious fieldhouse. This structure features locker rooms for the Wolves’ softball and soccer teams, plus a large meeting and reception area. The fieldhouse sits between the Wolves’ new soccer and softball stadiums. Also, an adjacent soccer practice field is part of the complex.
   
Though Saturday marks the official dedication of the women’s complex, UWG teams already feel at home there. The Wolves soccer team last season played its final four home games on its new field, while softball began playing in its new home in March.
   
Saturday’s ceremonies are part of a very busy day of activities at the UWG Athletic Complex. The Wolves’ soccer program is hosting the “Kick Sarcoma Cancer 3v3 Soccer Tournament. This event is in remembrance of Nicole Nunn; a former student athletic trainer at UWG who last fall lost her battle with this form cancer.
   
Following the soccer and dedication ceremonies, there is also softball on Saturday’s calendar. West Georgia will host North Alabama in a GSC East Division double header, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
