Carrollton, GA - Some athletes that have a stellar freshman season end up going through what is sometimes known as the "sophomore jinx." Not so for UWG sophomore second baseman Lindsey Ellenburg, who was voted for the second straight season Wednesday to the All-Gulf South Conference team.
By earning Second Team All-GSC honors in 2010, Ellenburg joins a list of nine former UWG softball players who earned an All-Conference nod in two straight seasons. More recently, Candice Brown, Kim Weaver and Adrienne Clay were selected in at least two straight seasons. Ellenburg was named to the All-GSC First Team in 2009.
The Wolves struggled as a team this season, but Ellenburg excelled, increasing her batting average by nearly 60 points and tying Jessie Wise, another two-time All-GSC performer, for the single-season record for doubles with 18.
In the single-season record book is not the only place where Ellenburg is having an impact on the UWG record book, as she is quickly moving up the rankings in several all-time categories for the Wolves. She is currently sixth all-time in batting average at .308, fifth in doubles with 28 and sixth in slugging percentage.
