The match was a back-and-forth battle for much of the contest, with neither team able to penetrate the opposite defense for a decent shot for the majority of the night. But in the 17th minute, Emory's Melanie
Levy broke free, and with a West Georgia defender all over her, delivered a sliding shot past UWG keeper
Patricia Logsdon for the only goal of the night.
West Georgia had multiple opportunities to score on the night, but couldn't find the net. Sophomore
Angie Jolly came close with a blast in the waning moments of the game, but the shot sailed over the bar.
Junior
Cydney Raymond also had a close-call late, as she broke free, but the Emory keeper made a spectacular save on the effort. Both the Wolves and Emory had four shots-on-goal in the contest.
The Wolves open the regular season in two weeks against the Tampa Spartans at the Columbus State Invitational on September 3 at 2 p.m. The first home match of the season is set for September 11 against Newberry at 7 p.m.
