Carrollton, GA – Last Saturday’s football season opener for the West Georgia Wolves saw a huge turnout of over 6,000 fans at University Stadium. With the large crowd, however, UWG officials were faced with major traffic problems.
As a result of that experience, changes are in store for the remainder of the season. Senior associate athletic director Eddie Duffey revealed Wednesday that a new plan will be in place, beginning with this Saturday’s game vs. Concordia.
“We began working on the new plan during the second half of last Saturday’s game,” said Duffey. “Every agency involved in traffic, parking and transportation had input into putting this new plan together. We’re confident that things will flow much more smoothly this week and for the rest of the season.”
UWG’s new parking and transportation involves both added personnel and added access to the University Stadium grounds. Beyond the main gate on the west side of the stadium, Duffey said that the gate and access road on the east side is scheduled to be open 90 minutes before kickoff.
Also, additional parking personnel will be on hand to expedite the handling of money, and directing of cars into the proper lots.
“We believe we have the finest stadium and facility in the country,” says Duffey. “Our goal is to create the best possible game day experience for our fans. Our hope is that everyone will come out early to tailgate, and to enjoy the pregame atmosphere.”
“We learned from last week’s experience, and we think this new plan will go a long way toward ensuring that everyone will be in their seat by kickoff time.”
West Georgia hosts Concordia (Ala.) Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
