Wolf Athlete Mentor Organization (WAMO)
The Wolf Athlete Mentor Organization (WAMO) is a group of athletes selected to represent their teams. A Wolf Athlete Mentor (WAM) works as a peer with teammates to help promote responsible, positive behaviors. WAMs receive valuable training in alcohol and other drug abuse prevention throughout the year and learn to use educational and university resources to support their efforts and the well-being of their teammates.
How Does the WAMO Program Benefit the UWG Athletic Teams?
Having WAMs on a team helps:
• Create a safe, healthy atmosphere for teammates
• Provides leadership
• Promotes alcohol and drug abuse prevention and education
• Teaches coping strategies and problem solving
• Improves interpersonal relationships
• Helps teammates with problems before they get out of control
• Provides extra support for first year teammates
• Facilitates communication between coaches and athletes
