West Georgia Athletic Foundation History
In 1980, the West Georgia College Athletic Department was coming off of several successful runs on the basketball court. The department was in need of financial backing in addition to state funds, and the initiative of several West Georgia alumni and fans began the Braves Booster Club. That initiative has evolved through the past 30 years and now plays a key role in supporting and promoting athletics at the University of West Georgia. In the summer of 2009, the University of West Georgia introduced the West Georgia Athletic Fund as the fundraising and driving engine of the West Georgia Athletic Department. In the summer of 2010, the former West Georgia Athletic Booster Club was reorganized and renamed as the West Georgia Athletic Foundation, with contribution to the West Georgia Athletic Fund making the contributor a member of the Foundation.
